Entry #9 Food Comic
With so many food brands available in the grocery store, it’s important to check to see what goes into our food. We should be aware of what we’re putting into our bodies and make choices that are healthier for ourselves. What we eat directly impacts our health. Many food companies focus more on making money than on providing nutritious or ethically made products. This means that profit often takes priority over the well-being of consumers.
In this comic, two men are shown in a grocery store looking at the ingredients list on the back of a can. The man on the right says the ingredients are put in order of importance, to which the man on the left retorts, asking what’s after profit. He insinuates that corporations don’t care about their consumers. This comment emphasizes the idea that many companies prioritize maximizing profits over the quality and healthiness of their products. That usually entails using low-quality, highly processed ingredients. This comic encourages viewers to think critically of the food industry and question how our food is made and what’s in it. Just because it tastes good or looks good doesn’t mean it’s good for you. As consumers, we should be aware of where our food comes from and the values of the companies we support.
This simple comic draws attention to the priorities of the food industry. By using humor it reminds us that profit often comes before the well-being of consumers. It points out the importance of being an informed buyer and thinking critically about what we put into our bodies.
