Entry #10 Shows or Movies?

The question “Are you a movie or a show person?” has plagued me for years. I often have phases where I am either one or the other. They both have their pros and cons, and it’s hard to choose one over the other. However, after extensive thought and reflection on my past watching habits, I’ve come to my final answer. Shows are better than movies.

I find that, with shows, you are able to get to know the character better. You get to see their personality shine through more, and it feels like you know them more personally. You’re able to see them more as an actual person than a fictional character, making it easier to relate to them and their experiences. As the show progresses, you get to see how the characters grow and progress as they combat any struggles they face. Of course, in movies, you’re also able to witness this, but not to the extent that you do in shows. It can sometimes feel restricted and not live up to the expectations I had. I think that feeling could be due to the limited time frame movies have. They can’t have as much detail as in shows because it might mess with the run time. I don’t know many people who would want to watch a movie that’s longer than two hours unless they know for certain it’s going to be good.

Shows also give more time for storytelling. Sometimes movies feel rushed because they need to fit a five-hour story into a two-hour time frame. With shows, you’re able to see each detail of the plot unfold as each episode progresses. There’s more detail in each episode that allows for more interpretation and speculation of what the upcoming episodes will contain. This slower pace allows viewers to become more invested in the characters and their journeys.

All in all, I love watching both movies and shows. I appreciate both forms of storytelling, and I appreciate the time and effort it takes to produce a good show or movie. In the end, it really comes down to personal preference!

  1. I liked how you explained the difference between watching shows and movies. You made a good point about how shows give more time for character development and better storytelling. It really does make you feel more connected to the characters. I agree that both are good, but shows can pull you in more because of the extra time they have.
